Salvelinus leucomaenis is a Japanese trout in the genus of Salvelinus called Iwana in Japanese and whitespotted char in English. Iwana is widely fished in Japan. There is a landlocked and ocean run form. The landlocked form grows up to 14 inches, and prefers low temperature streams. The sea going fish can grow over two feet long. The oldest reported specimen was 9 years old.
